Cross border Planning

Where clients have international assets, or structures, or want to benefit people living abroad, O’Hanlon Tax can provide comprehensive advice on cross-border estate and trust tax matters for. We regularly assist with the Irish tax implications of foreign estates and trusts, including exposure to double taxation where UK Inheritance Tax (IHT), US Federal Estate Tax (FET), or other foreign taxes apply. In the US context, we can prepare and file Federal Estate Tax returns, and obtain clearance to facilitate the release of US assets.

We can also advise on the interaction of Irish tax rules with foreign trust structures, succession laws, and double taxation agreements. This may require the review of relevant reliefs and credits and advising on the steps needed so clients can ensure they meet Irish and international tax requirements.

Given the complexity of cross-border matters, we provide formal written advice to set out tax obligations, support compliance work, and minimise the risk of unintended tax liabilities arising across the relevant jurisdictions.
